

Transportation System Management/Transportation Demand Management (TSM/TDM):
The TSM/TDM Alternate will be incorporated into the build alternates; it will not be a stand alone alternate.
The TSM strategies are improvements that increase safety and enhance operation. Options include interchange reconfigurations and enhanced traveler information. The TSM alternate includes interchange reconfigurations at approximately ten (10) interchanges to improve operations and safety by removing some loop ramps in cloverleaf interchanges.
The TDM strategies focus on system demand and techniques to change drivers' behavior. TDM strategies are most effective on a regional basis and are commonly implemented through private employers. One or more of these options could be combined with other alternates to increase their effectiveness. The TDM options will identify potential locations for park-and-ride lots in the immediate vicinity of the Capital Beltway. If any park-and-ride lots should be expanded and issues associated with lot expansion will be identified.
SHA is recommending that this alternate be incorporated into the build alternates.
